Developing High Performing Teams
Today’s workplace calls for the development of high performing work teams to manage dynamic healthcare environments. While positive outcomes are the end goal, it’s impossible to get there without strong processes and collaborative relationships across and within teams. In this session, panelists will share information on the core components of high performing teams, and present strategies to design and implement collaborative work systems. The program will begin with a brief presentation by the moderator, followed by remarks from each of the panelists. The program will conclude with a 30-minute question-and-answer period.

Moderator:

Blaine Brackett is a Senior Director of Client Success at Practicing Excellence, overseeing client support, program innovation, and coaching strategies for 50+ clients nationwide. He specializes in helping leaders and teams thrive through coaching and workshops. Previously, he was the Director of Patient Experience at Sentara Medical Group, where he led efforts to improve clinician engagement, retention, and patient experience, coaching over 600 clinicians.
Before healthcare, Blaine worked at Chick-fil-A as Executive Director of Business Operations, focusing on leadership development and operational excellence. He lives in Chesapeake, Virginia with his wife, two daughters, and mini goldendoodle.
Panelists:

Jon-David Deeson has been the executive vice president of physician enterprise and ambulatory services for Covenant Health since April 2023. His responsibilities include overseeing Thompson Cancer Survival Center, ambulatory services, physician engagement, and Covenant Medical Group.
Previously, Deeson served as CEO of OrthoTennessee from 2017, leading over 130 providers in various specialties and expanding services like urgent care, MRI, surgery centers, and digital health solutions.
With 28 years in healthcare, Deeson has expertise in operations, strategy, and finances, having worked with over 40 specialties across hospitals, physician practices, and surgery centers. He also held roles at PYA for 17 years, where he consulted on healthcare services.
Deeson holds degrees from the University of Florida and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, a certified medical practice executive, and serves on several boards, including HealthCare 21 Solutions and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Greater Knoxville.

Whitney Snardon joined Parkridge Medical Center in 2020 as Market Associate Administrator and quickly rose to VP of Operations and Co-Ethics & Compliance Officer. She now serves as Chief Operating Officer, overseeing operations at both Parkridge Medical Center and Parkridge West Hospital, including 18 clinical and support service departments. Whitney also leads the Orchard Knob Collaborative and serves on the Urban League of Greater Chattanooga’s board.
Before Parkridge, Whitney worked at Bon Secours Mercy Health and New Orleans East Hospital. She holds a Master of Health Administration from Tulane University and a Bachelor’s from Loyola University New Orleans. She’s a Fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives and has received several awards, including the ACHE Kentucky Regent’s Early Career Award and the Chattanooga Times Free Press “Rising Star” Award.
Outside of work, she enjoys cooking with her husband Corbin and spending time with their son, Ray, and is expecting a new baby in 2024. Whitney’s life philosophy is to embody love through action.

Shannon Showalter is the vice president and chief executive officer responsible for overseeing all Ballad Health operations in Lee, Wise, and Dickenson counties in Southwest Virginia, which includes Dickenson Community Hospital, Lonesome Pine Hospital, Norton Community Hospital and Lee County Community Hospital.
Originally from Everett, Pennsylvania, Shannon began his educational journey at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, earning both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Physical Therapy.
Driven by a passion for expanding his knowledge, Shannon pursued a Master of Business Administration at Salisbury University, further preparing him for the ever-evolving healthcare landscape. His dedication to healthcare management excellence led to his board certification from the American College of Health Care Executives (ACHE). Shannon's commitment to leadership is exemplified by his successful completion of the ACHE Executive Leadership Program.
Shannon and his wife Kelly homeschool their 3 beautiful children in Norton, Virginia.
